The Trousdale Estates Monument

The residence is unified by a single, disciplined material choice. CAD Stone Works fabricated and installed light gray limestone across every floor of the home, interior and exterior. The same stone carries from the entry through the main living spaces and continues outside onto the terraces, so the ground plane reads as one uninterrupted surface. Achieving that continuity in a modernist home is demanding work, because there are no baseboards or transition strips to absorb error. Every slab was laid to a tight, level tolerance so the floors meet the walls and the glass lines cleanly, and the interior reads flush with the exterior when the home opens up.

The architectural centerpiece of the home is a monolithic Nero Marquina marble fireplace. CAD Stone Works fabricated it as a singular dark volume, its stark white veining carried across the faces so the marble reads as one continuous piece rather than a set of panels. The feature is engineered to descend through the structure, continuing down to a second fireplace on the lower level, so the dark marble reads as a single vertical element tying the two floors of the house together. The veining was sequenced and matched across the slabs so the movement flows without interruption, and the corners were cut and joined cleanly so the form stays pure.
